Bio

I love the experience of looking and "seeing". Challenging myself to see more completely; understanding the relationships between color, light, shadow and space itself; and then asking myself to look at it again, differently.

Predominately I am a "plein aire" painter and relish the times I can be out in nature and paint. I don't always love what I create but I gain something each time I do paint. When I started in my first water color class ten years ago, I began each painting by drawing the painting. It took time to gain the confidence and skill to just begin to paint. This was very important since the immediacy of watercolor is its appeal for me. Having practiced architecture professionally, I found it very hard to paint buildings in a relaxed manner. I found it took years of avoidance of buildings as a painting subject until I could be free enough to paint them easily in their natural settings.

When I travel to paint or go outdoors, I either use watercolors or sketch in ink and use a water brush. In the winter, I have enjoyed using oils and pastels in my studio and in classes.

I have included images I love and those that I like if they show where I have been and what I have been drawn to. I hope you enjoy my selections.
